Sugar & Joe, a popular spot for weekend brunch, closed its doors at the end of January.
The coffee shop and restaurant, located at 42-20 Greenpoint Avenue (across from Thomas Noonan Park), opened in September 2008. At the time of opening, the Shauna Eats Sunnyside blog wondered if this particular stretch of Greenpoint was just too desolate to attract enough customers. For awhile, this appeared to be the case, as the business often appeared too quiet to stay open. However, in recent months, seats were filled, even during the workday, which makes its closure seem all the more sudden.
The closure sign notes, “we would like to thank you for all your support and if you would like to hear of our future plans please contact us. Sugarandjoe@aol.com.”
Many of us will miss the quality, homemade baked goods, and stellar lunch items (the soup was near perfect) – an update will be posted once we hear back from the owner. Let’s hope the owner finds another (and better) location in Sunnyside.
